Photogrammetry - Game ready rocks

Turntable

Inspired by some of the assemblies in the Megascans library I decided to leave a small bit of the ground around the rock, which can simply be hidden by sinking it down below the ground plane in the environment, if one prefers.

This smaller rock was the first one I scanned. The hurdles I had to overcome taught me a bunch of things to improve in the photography part of scanning the second rock to streamline the process.

Examples of this was to take more photos around recessed areas, which helped stop blurry areas being projected as can be seen in some parts of the texture of this rock.

This rock also had several photos that needed to be manually aligned in metashape. By almost doubling the amount of photos for the second rock, more overlapping parts where found in the photos and they all aligned correctly.

Turntable rock 2

My early adventures in photo scanning. Both rocks are scanned in the woods behind my house in Bergslagen, Sweden. The goal of this project was to bring these objects all the way from raw scan data to optimized game ready models, complete with LOD steps and de-lit textures.
